Factual production masterclass at Lackham Equine event
A film crew from Interactive Media Centre worked with a TV professional to cover the Wiltshire College Lackham British Event 2008 on May 20 and 21. The team of three Foundation Degree Digital Media Arts students produced a series of short news pieces over the two days. TV Producer/Director Jeremy Payne teamed up with IMC's Richard White to deliver a practical masterclass in tv news production.
Summary
The students, Gerry Frost, Colin Grainge and Glen Hart were up at dawn to catch the convoy of horse boxes arriving and worked though until the 6pm webcast deadline.
Creating four short news stories over the two days gave the students an opportunity to work to a real industry style deadline and a chance to test their skills working for an industry professional.
Alice Nutland, a Wiltshire College student describes the event
Sophia Clifford also from Wiltshire College took part in the event.
Eventing is the ultimate test of horse and rider, comprising three equine disciplines. Dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping. The Lackham event attracted over 500 horses and riders from novices to Olympic hopefuls.
Introductory test sequence made on day one
The Lackham event provided diverse opportunities for students to work with a range of professionals. As the films show students worked with the British Eventing team, preparing the site and managing the event, doing everything from directing the traffic and supporting course stewards to hosting VIPs. Wiltshire College students also provided catering and floristry displays for the sponsors reception.
